Hans Gullickson was born in 1973 and grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Coming from a musical family, he trained intensively as a classical violinist from age 7 to late teens. From a young age, Hans had an innate desire to draw. He was interested in comics and cartoons and drew all the time, filling sketchbooks and drawing and painting on the walls of his room. In high school, he majored in both art and music. He became interested in pop art, punk aesthetics and underground media. After high school, he joined an artist-run gallery cooperative devoted to promoting local artists. Artistically, Hans began experimenting with new media, painting in large scale, silkscreening and creating site-specific installations. In 1999 he moved to Chicago to be closer to a larger, more diverse arts community. During 2001-2005, Hans completed a series of artist-books and a series of large scale paintings. In 2005 he visited Japan to collaborate with Tokyo Alice, a Japanese artist and graphic designer. they produced and presented artwork, including installation art, in Japan and american. In 2006, Hans moved to New York. He is working with artists and art groups involved with traditional, and non-traditional arts, and creating his own work. |
